The Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) works with partners across the Chesapeake Bay region to promote renewable energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and stop the expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure. Our campaigns focus on passing legislation that will dramatically reduce climate change pollution, while cleaning up our air, improving the health of our communities, and creating good-paying new jobs.
We’re looking for smart, talented students for summer internships to stand up and take climate action. Apply today!
The Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) is the only group in the Chesapeake region of Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C. dedicated exclusively to building a powerful grassroots movement to fight climate change. Our mission is to build the kind of movement it will take to put our region on the path to climate stability, while using our proximity to the nation’s capital to inspire action in neighboring states, around the country and around the world.
ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN
We have won some big victories! Maryland was the first state with natural gas reserves to legislatively ban fracking, and has the strongest renewable electricity standard of any state with bipartisan control of the government. DC has some of the strongest clean energy laws in the country. And Virginia has recently become one of the most climate-friendly states in the South.
Now, we are taking proactive steps to elect and hold accountable candidates for office that are committed to climate justice, educating people across the state on both how and the importance of electrifying our homes and buildings, and recruiting new CCAN members and supporting and training them to build action teams that help build our base and execute lead on key tactics for these campaigns. As the CCAN Grassroots Intern, you will work with CCAN’s Field Director and the Maryland team to expand our membership and build our base so that we can bring the power of the people to the halls of power.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- A driving passion to enact structural change to address the causes of climate change and win
- An eagerness to learn new advocacy and organizing skills and put them to work right away
- A willingness to work hard
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A people person. Someone who will get energy from reaching out to people, building relationships, and recruiting them to join CCAN’s membership program.
This internship will be based in our office in Takoma Park, MD. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the MD Field Director is only going to the offices on Mondays and Wednesdays.
