Oh man. The US Senate is at it again, being all ornery and threatening to de-greenify the stimulus bill that EVERYONE is talking about. All the time. Including me. And while this blog is a great way for me to get to whine about it, the way more important part is to let you know exactly what’s going on – and what actions YOU can take to help keep all of these great green projects in there.
So here’s the low-down:
-The House passed an economic recovery bill containing over $100 billion for green projects. That’s the largest investment in green projects we’ve ever seen. Bonus: it could create over 2 million green jobs that this country needs.
– However, there are some Senators talking about taking these hard-earned funds out of the package. After all, we wouldn’t want to spend all this unnecessary pork on things that the greenies want.
– Even more awesome (sarcasm) is the $50 BILLION in loan guarantees for coal and nuclear. Not only are these energy sources dirty and dangerous, they produce fewer jobs – dollar for dollar, megawatt per megawatt – than solar and wind energy does.
What can you do? Take a moment and call your Senators.
Tell them:
– stop all loan guarantees for new nuclear reactors and coal to liquids
– invest in more public transit
– invest in more energy efficiency
