Fracking is a dangerous drilling practice linked to drinking water contamination, air and climate pollution and even earthquakes in nearby states. Unfortunately, the gas and oil industry is zeroing in on Maryland – not only as the next state where they want to frack, but also as a conduit to ship fracked gas to the rest of the world.

In 2011, Governor O’Malley issued an executive order that laid out a process for determining whether fracking would pose unacceptable risks to Marylanders. But it’s unclear whether the state will have enough time or money to complete the necessary scientific studies by the August 2014 deadline.

We’re calling on Governor O’Malley to uphold the promises of his executive order — to stop any forward momentum on fracking projects and ensure Maryland has the time and money needed to complete studies on the risks that fracking poses to our communities.

Sign the petition: Tell Governor O’Malley to hold the line against dangerous fracking.
