At Benjamin Franklin High School, a human rights-focused student group called Free Your Voice is mobilizing their community to fight back against a potential environmental and public health catastrophe. CCAN is excited to partner with them as they fight to give their community a voice.

The country’s largest waste-to-energy incinerator proposed to date is set to be built in the South Baltimore community of Curtis Bay, by an out-of-state company called Energy Answers, Inc. Worse still, the proposed facility is located less than a mile from Benjamin Franklin High School and Curtis Bay Elementary School. Learn more about the proposed facility here.
Free Your Voice is taking a stand to protect their home. “We transformed the way they look at the world in terms of basic human rights and what we want for ourselves, our families and our communities.”
They’ve started this incredible photo-petition to give a voice and a public face to the people who would be hurt by the incinerator’s construction.
