ROCKVILLE (4/20/10)—To mark the 40th anniversary of Earth Day 1970, the Montgomery County Council today named CCAN director Mike Tidwell as one of the County’s top 40 environmental leaders over the past 40 years.

Statement from Executive Director Mike Tidwell:

“By honoring a global warming activist, the Council has shown just how far environmental problems and solutions have come since the early days of the conservation movement. The county has pioneered many solutions, from the establishment of an agricultural preserve to the promotion of wind power. But global warming is now rising as the mother of all environmental threats to the county and the entire planet.

“I accept this award with gratitude and renewed dedication on behalf of my 12-year-old son. We’ve done much work since Earth Day 1970, but there’s 40 times more work to do if we’re going to solve the climate crisis by the year 2050. I look forward to working with the County Council and activists across this state to bring radical clean-energy changes to our region very soon.”
