Two more days ’til the big day! The latest weather reports call for a mostly sunny day with a high around 40 degrees in Annapolis. Whatever it ends up being, we’ll be there wearing our swimming suits starting at 10:30 AM!

There’s still time to join us on Saturday for CCAN’s Fifth Annual Polar Bear Plunge. You can take the plunge, or just show your support from the sidelines.

If you’re coming, here’s what you need to know:

Directions
: The plunge is being held on the beach of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation in Annapolis and the program begins at 10:30 AM. The address is 6 Herndon Ave. You can view a map and get directions by going to http://bit.ly/plungemap.

Carpooling: We encourage people to carpool as much as possible. We’ve created a blog post on the keepwintercold.org website where people can offer spaces in your car and people who need a ride can ask for one. Access this service here.

Donations: Thanks so much to all of you who have been recruiting plunge sponsors. It has been gratifying to see the contributions streaming in. There is still time to reach out to more sponsors and ask people to pledge money to CCAN to support your cold water adventure for a very good cause! Donations can be sent to you, or made online via the www.keepwintercold.org website (the Donation tab, if you haven’t set up a personalized donation page). And the actual donations can come in after the plunge. Please do what you can to maximize the number of people who agree to sponsor you before Saturday.

Program: We’re pleased to report that in addition to the music of Joe Uehlein and the taking of a “3-5-0” picture of all of us on the beach before we go into the water, we’ll be hearing from Misti Furr, a resident of the Virginia town of Dendron, in the Hampton Roads area, where a utility is trying to build a $6 billion coal plant. If built, it would be the biggest coal plant in the state! After speaking, Misti will jump into the water with all of us.

Supporters and Blankets: Finally, we encourage you to bring 1, 2, or 3 people with you to support your plunge and to help us make our 350-person goal. Some supporters might even become inspired and decide to take the plunge the following year. And be sure to come prepared for the cold. You may want to bring flip flops or sandals to keep your feet off the cold sand before running into the water. And it’s also nice to have a towel and blanket for when you run out of the water back onto shore. Neither are absolutely necessary but they can help make the experience less challenging.

And don’t forget our post-plunge party at The Rockfish Restaurant. We’ll have directions to give to everyone on Saturday.

We think those are all the last-minute reminders and details. If you have a question, don’t hesitate contact Ted Glick at 240-396-2155 or ted@chesapeakeclimate.org.
